Partnership With SmartLam
May 12, 2020
SmartLam North America™ and RedBuilt™ are proud to announce their partnership to supply Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) products and solutions to architects, engineers and contractors for projects using the popular mass timber building technology.
RedBuilt will serve as the exclusive distributor of SmartLam CLT in the Pacific Northwest, West Coast and Southwest, which includes nine states; California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Montana.
Together, SmartLam and RedBuilt will offer the first integrated solution for mass timber building, with highly trained technical sales and design teams, all deeply familiar with mass timber design, manufacturing and installation. These teams will guide architects, engineers and contractors through the entire design and construction process to streamline workflow and eliminate guesswork.
In addition to industry-leading support, the SmartLam/Redbuilt partnership will offer a wide array of structural engineered wood solutions, including CLT, GLB, Open Web, I-joists, LVL and connection hardware from a single source, simplifying the building process.
Since establishing the North America’s first CLT manufacturing facility in 2012, SmartLam has been the pioneer of CLT in the U.S. The company continues to lead the industry with the largest production capabilities in North America and the most diverse ANSI/PRG 320 product certification and species offerings. SmartLam operates two modern production facilities in Columbia Falls, Montana as well as Dothan, Alabama. The Columbia Falls facility also serves as their corporate headquarters. Casey Malmquist, CEO and Founder of SmartLam North America is thrilled about this partnership, “SmartLam sees great potential in developing the market though our partnership with RedBuilt. Our team is excited to support and grow the relationship by offering the absolute best products, unmatched service levels, and seamless project delivery to our joint customers throughout the western US.”

Don Schwabe, CEO and President of RedBuilt shares the excitement and benefits of the partnership, “Mass timber is a natural extension to the RedBuilt offering, and Smartlam is the natural choice as our supplier. Our customers are getting the best of both worlds. From design to delivery, they know we will get it done on-time, on-spec, and on budget.”
Using Wood Products in Green Building Design

Why you should prioritize carbon sequestration when building
Implementing green building practices means using fewer resources, reducing waste, and decreasing life cycle costs. Sustainable design yields faster lease up rates, higher resale value, and lower energy use.
Scissor Trusses Offer Aesthetic Appeal
An old gas station site is revitalized into a new one-story retail space on a busy corner in Watertown, Massachusetts. The combination of RedBuilt’s Red-S™ trusses and superior customer service proved to be a winning combination for Architect Douglas Annino.
“The 951” in Downtown Boise
All wood. Mid-rise. Mixed use.
Floor Vibration: An Everyday Thing
Our floor at home is designed for a live load of 40 pounds per square foot. I’ve never actually seen 40 pounds on each square foot of it, not all at once. None of us do. On my floor there’s just a scattering of chairs and tables and two useless cats.
The Red Badger Award
Persistence in problem solving. Never giving up. Doing whatever it takes to service the needs of the customer. These are “Badger-like” behaviors that exemplify RedBuilt™ associates who win the annual Red Badger award.
From lumber mill to flowerpot – the journey of lumber wrap
Because our trusses use a lot of MSR lumber, RedLam™ LVL or LSL, a lot of plastic lumber wrap is peeled off bundles as we get to work turning that material into RedBuilt trusses. At our Hillsboro, OR plant we bag up every bit of that wrap for recycling—adding up to about 5 tons per year!
